The Committee for the Peaceful Use of Outer Space (COPUOS) has a mandate to review ways in which it can foster international cooperation in peaceful uses of outer space. Additionally, it has the power to investigate space-related activities that could be undertaken by the UN, encourage space research, and study legal problems arising from the exploration of outer space. With the rising role of the private sector in space exploration, delegates should be prepared to to tackle issues related to this new paradigm.

Topic: The Privatization and Colonization of Outer Space

Space is the final frontier, as yet mostly unexplored and unclaimed. As private businesses get more advanced and become space-faring, questions about regulation arise. Additionally, how can the global community prevent the militarization of space?

Topic: Long-term Sustainability of Outer Space Activities

Space exploration must be conducted with forethought to make sure that it is sustainable and positive. This includes matters such as detecting near earth objects, cleaning up space debris, using sustainable resources for space travel etc. Delegates should be prepared with innovative solutions.
