Boston University’s 26th Model United Nations Conference

Friday, February 5 — Sunday, February 7, 2027

Letter from the Secretary-General

Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,

It is my pleasure to introduce the twenty-sixth iteration of the Boston Model United Nations Conference. My name is Joseph Masterson, and I am honored to be your BosMUN XXVI Secretary-General. On behalf of the entire BosMUN XXVI Secretariat, we cannot wait to welcome you all to the Boston Marriott Copley Place and Sheraton Boston Hotel from February 5th-7th.

This conference is particularly special to me, as I got my start in Model UN as a delegate in BosMUN XX, six years ago. I started out as a nervous high schooler but found a passion for public speaking, collaboration, and international relations all through Model UN, and by extension, built confidence, debate skills, and personal and professional connections through this activity. Most importantly, I find so much joy in Model UN. Whether I’m competing in or staffing BosMUN, or competing on BU’s top-ranked collegiate MUN team, you’ll always find me smiling wide and having the time of my life. I joined the secretariat of BosMUN last year as USG of General Assembly to help bring that joy and passion to the next generation of delegates, diplomats, and globally conscious citizens, and I’m proud to continue that mission as Secretary-General.

Last year, we celebrated 25 years of BosMUN and focused on what makes BosMUN special. Our commitment to a learning-first-centered experience prioritizes every delegate’s ability to grow and succeed. I want BosMUN XXVI to continue our commitment to being a training conference and keep pushing every delegate to reach for the stars! To achieve this, I believe that every delegate deserves the tools to succeed, which is why we are expanding our free pre-conference trainings, bringing back the BosMUN grant and Young Diplomat Award, and revamping our delegate portal to make these resources more accessible.

Beyond our continued commitment to equity and accessibility, this year’s BosMUN, we are proud to debut a variety of initiatives to make committees more engaging than ever before. This includes bringing in designated committee speakers to a few keynote committees, drawing from politicians, academics, and experts in their fields from the Boston community and beyond, to speak to delegates in committee about the real-world issues that they are debating. Additionally, our innovative committee slate includes a variety of historical and contemporary committees across all four branches, BosMUN’s first committee exclusively for all-women and gender non-conforming delegates, and BosMUN’s first-ever Specialized Ad Hoc committee.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to each and every one of you. Delegates and advisors are the heart of BosMUN, and without each and every one of you, this conference would be nothing more than a group of college students in suits. I am so elated to bring you an unforgettable BosMUN experience, and I can’t wait to see all that you accomplish.

Sincerely,

Joseph Masterson
Secretary-General
