Overview
This committee operates as a Joint Crisis Committee (JCC), meaning your actions in this room are inextricably linked to the events unfolding in the opposing chamber. This high-stakes, multi-room simulation is designed to teach you the fundamentals of cross-committee strategy and real-time crisis management. The committee will function on a two-pad note system, where delegates will be given two legal notepads to write their crisis notes on, and the backroom takes one pad per cycle. Each of the two pads should be filled with notes addressed to one external contact, such as a mother, spouse, or powerful relative. The note cycle duration will vary depending on staffing and the speed of committee debate. On average, it will take 30 minutes to process one pad and collect the second. Crisis updates will take place interspersed with committee, likely coinciding with the note-collections.
Topic: Lakers, 1983-1984 NBA Season
Welcome to Los Angeles! It’s the beginning of the 1983-84 NBA season, and amid the glitz and glamour are battles between striking talent and even bigger personalities. The Lakers have won two rings to start the '80s off right, but after falling to the Philadelphia 76ers, they’ve still got something to prove. The Lakers are staring down their formidable rivals, the Boston Celtics, with a 0-7 record in NBA finals appearances. While the Lakers' owner, Dr. Buss, seems to think he has what it takes to win, the dynasty in Boston isn’t afraid of L.A. just yet.
Can stars like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson beat Bird and McHale? Can the team keep the fans coming in the door and keep their books afloat? Is this team only worth two championships, or are they a dynasty that can live forever in the annals of sports history? Well, they don’t call it showtime for nothing; this should be a fun one.
The Dais
Mason Carlucci - Chair
Mason Carlucci (he/him) is a senior at Boston University studying Data Science with a minor in Business Management and Administration. Originally from Norwalk, CT, Mason is a die-hard New York sports fan who is eager to lead the Lakers to a victory over the Celtics in this year’s high-stakes Joint Crisis Committee.
Mason brings elite experience to the dais, having served as the Secretary-General of BosMUN XXIV and as the former Assistant Head Delegate of the MUN@BU travel team. As a crisis delegate by trade, he is looking for high-energy speeches, seamless collaboration, and strategically sound directives to ensure the Lakers dominate the court.
Outside of the committee room, Mason serves as a co-chair in BU’s Student Government and enjoys coding, playing sports management games, and attending live music. In his final year at BU, he spends his time exploring the city and debating sports (usually involving a complaint or two about the Yankees).
Mason emphasizes that basketball—and MUN—is a team sport. He believes the best leaders are those who highlight the strengths of their teammates rather than playing solo. He is ready to see his delegates bring the "razzle-dazzle" and work as a cohesive unit to bring home the win!

Jonah Gatoff - Vice Chair
Jonah Gatoff is a freshman at Boston University majoring in International Relations and minoring in Public Policy Analysis. She is thrilled to be serving on her first crisis committee as the Vice Chair for the Lakers side of the high-stakes Lakers vs. Celtics JCC.
Jonah’s connection to the rivalry is unique: she grew up in Newton, MA, but spent the last several years living in California, putting her right in the crosshairs of the legendary battle between the two coastlines.
Outside of the committee room, Jonah is a formidable competitor on BU’s Debate team and Moot Court (mock Supreme Court) team. Having participated in soccer, water polo, track & field, and speech during high school, she has a deep appreciation for "fiery competition." To balance her competitive side, Jonah is an avid artist who loves to destress with her sketchbooks and colored pencils.
She looks forward to meeting all the delegates in February and expects to see creative, spirited debate and strategic maneuvers as the Lakers fight for dominance on and off the court.

Jackson Baker - Crisis Director
Jackson Baker (he/him) is a sophomore at Boston University studying Biomedical Engineering on the pre-med track. Originally from Virginia Beach, VA, Jackson is a lifelong Boston sports fan, meaning this committee will truly test his dedication as he helps lead the Lakers side to victory in the Lakers vs. Celtics JCC.
Jackson has been involved in Model UN since his sophomore year of high school. While he typically competes as a GA delegate, he is incredibly excited to jump into the fast-paced world of crisis for BosMUN XXV.
Outside of the committee room, Jackson is deeply committed to the medical and scientific fields. He is a registered EMT working at Boston Medical Center, a Teaching Assistant for Physics 2, and is currently involved in a medical review paper and a neuroimaging research study. He welcomes any delegates with a shared passion for medicine to come say hello! When he isn’t working, Jackson can be found cheering on the Red Sox and Patriots, playing tier 1 competitive ice hockey (which he did for 15 years), tossing a frisbee in the Boston Common, and window shopping at the Prudential Center.
Jackson is looking forward to a weekend of spirited debate and seeing how the delegates handle the high-pressure environment of the JCC!

Dylan Navarette - Joint Crisis Director
Dylan Navarrete is a sophomore at Boston University studying History and International Relations. He is hyped to serve as the Joint Crisis Director for the high-stakes Showtime Lakers vs. Showdown Celtics JCC at BosMUN XXV.
Dylan’s MUN experience began in high school and has continued into college, where he has both competed in and staffed various crisis committees. This particular committee is a "fun challenge" for Dylan due to his personal sports allegiances: originally from San Diego, California, he grew up wearing a Kobe Bryant jersey every gameday. Now living in Boston—where the Celtics are essentially a religion—he finds himself in the heart of the rivalry he is directing.
Outside of the world of sports and MUN, Dylan is an avid reader and TV fan. His highlights include reading The Godfather and watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Succession
In the backroom, Dylan looks for creativity and bold choices. He is excited to see delegates who aren’t afraid to make daring moves that provide unique solutions to the crises presented. He warns delegates not to be shocked if they see him sporting Lakers gear throughout the conference weekend.
