Overview
Journalism holds significant power in shaping public opinion and influencing how events are understood by a wider audience. The press corps will be responsible for reporting on proceedings across BosMUN XXVI’s forty committees. Through articles, interviews, and multimedia coverage, these journalists will provide insight into debates, resolutions, and key moments as they unfold. Accuracy, clarity, and perspective will be essential as they interpret complex issues for their audiences. This committee will begin with General Assembly procedure, as delegates establish expectations, discuss standards, and prepare for their roles as representatives of various news outlets. Afterwards, journalists will disperse to cover different committees, gathering information and crafting stories that reflect their outlet’s perspective, style, and editorial priorities.
Topic: Journalism in the Age of the Internet
As journalism migrates away from traditional platforms, like print and broadcast, and towards online mediums, like short form video, media outlets must reevaluate and reinvent the ways they interact with their audiences. Traditional media outlets now face growing pressure to adapt in order to capture and retain their audiences’ attention. In response, news organizations are exploring new techniques, editing styles, and broadcasting methods, which could fundamentally transform the industry. These innovations raise important questions about credibility and audience trust, though. Representing media organizations from around the world, delegates must come together to evaluate these emerging approaches and determine which strategies are most effective, balancing the need for innovation with the responsibility to inform the public. Through discussion and collaboration, they will work to make a plan for navigating the ever-evolving media landscape to find their new direction before they go out into the broader BosMUN world to report on the developments in other committees.
