Topic 1: Addressing Forced Marriage and Child Marriage in Fragile States
The first topic addresses forced marriage and child marriage in fragile states. In regions affected by political and economic instability, girls become at higher risk of early and forced marriages as rates often increase as families cope with insecurity. Beyond restricting personal autonomy, these marriages can limit access to education and often bring significant health risks. While international efforts have been made to reduce these practices, deeply rooted social norms and weak legal frameworks have stalled progress. Delegates will balance cultural sensitivity along with the protection of fundamental rights as well as uplifting community-based approaches.
Topic 2: Gender-Based Violence in Conflict Zones
The second topic focuses on gender-based violence in conflict zones. During times of armed conflict, women and girls are disproportionately affected by various forms of violence, including exploitation and abuse. The lack of reliable and established legal systems and social protections can intensify these risks, making accountability and prevention more difficult. With more global and domestic conflicts on the rise globally, it's important to acknowledge the long-term impacts of violence as well as the realities of post-conflict recovery. Delegates will pursue mechanisms for prevention, protection, and justice, while also considering the challenges of enforcement and the role of international cooperation in addressing these issues.
